…Bamboo an icon : A leading Path brings together seemingly disparate elements

How can one, find a connection between the traditional art of European icon painting originally practiced by holy men and bamboo rendered in a style that suggests Asian brush painting traditionally practiced by scholars? If the viewers takes the time to look and reflect, a clear connection becomes evident. While the subject matter differs, both types of work require of the artist the same attentive focus used in meditation. No brush stroke is wasted, no application of color is without meaning. One can see that in both Western and Asian art there are certain constants which are well understood by the artist. Despite different styles and subject matter, the work in this exhibition clearly illustrates Brigitte Baert intensity, mental clarity, and spirituality.
